NEWS : Law "On medicines and pharmaceutical activity" gets approval in new edition.

- January 4, 2016, President of Uzbekistan signed the Law "On introducing amendments and addenda to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On medicines and pharmaceutical activity".

 

This law was adopted by the Legislative chamber on October 2 and approved by the Senate on December 4, 2015.

 

The purpose of this law is to further improve the legislation in the field of medicines and pharmaceutical activities, strengthening the legal guarantees of providing the population with quality, safe drugs and medicines.

 

In order to effectively solve these problems, the law, with regard to modern requirements and standards defines clear legal procedure and conditions of conducting pre-clinical studies of pharmacological, medicinal products, medical devices. It is established that medicines and medical devices are permitted for use, as a rule, after their state registration.

 

The law has fixed basic requirements for the production, storage, transportation of medicines and medical products, procedure for import into the country of medical drugs and their exportation.

 

Given the importance of providing safe and effective medicines, the law defines the requirements for the implementation of pharmacovigilance, powers, functions of health care institutions in this field. The law defines the legal status of pharmacies, requirements to the level of training of their employees.

 

In order to widely inform citizens about medicines used in the country, achieving transparency in pharmaceutical activities, the law introduces a requirement to the placement on the official web-site of the Ministry of health of the Republic of Uzbekistan a State register of medicinal products, medical devices and medical equipment permitted for use in medical practice, as well as the list of medicines, given on a nonprescription basis and other official information on medicines and other means of medical purpose.

The law entered into force on January 5, 2016.
