- Cotton growers of Uzbekistan collected over 3.4 million tonnes of crop and fulfilled their agreement liabilities with surplus. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov congratulated cotton growers with execution of the state order.
Uzbek leader said that hard work of farmers helped to collect large volume of crop and expressed his respect to them.

President Islam Karimov said that about 90% of collected crop was of high quality.

Islam Karimov stated that the farmers achieved high crop despite existing problems. He expressed gratitude to farmers for their hard work on behalf of the population of Uzbekistan.

Uzbek leader underlined that soil play key role in achieving high crop. He said that in last six years, Uzbekistan invested 1.3 trillion soums to land-improvement, which helped to improve fertility of 1.75 million hectares of irrigated lands. This resulted in improvement of the cotton yield from 24 to 26.5 centners per hectare, he added.

He said that Uzbekistan works on developing new types of cotton. He said that over 100 new sorts of cotton were developed, of which 27 were included to the state registrar and used in cotton fields.

Uzbek leader said that there are more works to do, in particular, the country should develop new sorts of cotton with high yield and quality of fiber. He said he expects goods results from scholars in near future in this area.

President Islam Karimov said that farmers used 5 tonnes of organic fertilizers per hectare or over 13 million tonnes overall.

President Islam Karimov recalled that Uzbekistan processed only 7% of produced cotton in 1990s, now the figure makes up 44%, which allows to export cotton products with high added value.

According to preliminary calculation, gross income from cotton growing this year will increase by 12 or over 400 billion soums compared to previous season. Uzbek farmers received additional income for over 200 billion soums from selling raw cotton, Uzbek head said. He added that this will help to increase income of farmers, development of rural areas and country as a whole
